Music premiere: FOR FOLK'S SAKE

Arielle Silver’s “Headlights” was made for a time such as this. The uplifting country folk tune is a healthy reminder of breaking our stressors down one moment, one day at a time. Filled with vibrant instrumentation, from the jangle of piano keys to full-bodied, empowering mandolin and backing vocals, the scene is set for Silver to deliver the crux of the tune’s optimistic message with her sweet, moving vocals.

An uplifting song released amid the COVID-19 crisis, Headlights draws strength from past times of uncertainty -- high school graduation and growing up -- to remind us that when times are dark, we can "follow the headlights and the dots of the broken line" to find our way back home.

lyrics

Drove home past the old town park
Five miles slow on twisting roads
Every time I hit a bend
It looked like the road would end

I gripped the wheel and I took my time
Felt like the night would last forever
I’d waited eighteen years to leave
But now I wished that time would freeze
I thought, I don’t know
How this growing up goes
But I followed the

Headlights
Followed the headlights
And the dots of the broken line
All the way home

Came back with a broken heart
Made it home for the school reunion
Took a smoke in the back lot
Thinking of everything I’m not

Blowing smoke rings to the stars
These years they went so fast
Wish we could live life in reverse
Get a chance to rehearse
But all you know is where I’ve been
So you follow the

Headlights
Follow the headlights
And the dots of the broken line
All the way home

All the way home
Life’s not flat
Living doesn’t unfold like a road map

So you follow the headlights
Follow the headlights
And the dots of the broken line
All the way home
